Kimmirut is a quaint Inuit hamlet situated on Baffin Island. This community is celebrated for its breathtaking natural landscapes and its rich traditional Inuit culture, especially in the realm of soapstone carving. As one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the Canadian Arctic, Kimmirut boasts a history that spans thousands of years. With a modest population, the hamlet is reachable by air or sea. Be sure to visit the local visitor center to discover this distinctive and culturally vibrant community, which has a profound bond with its natural environment and Inuit heritage.
Please note: A moderate amount of walking to fully-explore the community, however walking in Kimmirut is at the discretion of each guest. Local infrastructure is basic, and local road conditions are unpredictable, note that roads in Kimmirut are only partly paved, mostly on flat terrain. Guides, equipment, and services are the best-available but may not be up to the standards of those found on other excursions therefore, we urge flexibility and understanding as we visit unique and somewhat remote destinations. Dress in layers with sturdy, closed toe walking shoes/boots, and bring sun protection, insect repellent, weatherproof jacket, hat, and scarf.
